Kim Kataguiri: Today, unfortunately, in Brazil an agency is being used illegally as a basis for Ibama to prohibit productive activity.
Kim Kataguiri: So, simply for being considered an invasive or exotic species, prohibitions are occurring; indeed, in new studies there are moves to even ban the cultivation of mango and guava in Brazil because of these abuses that have happened, for example in the case of tilapia and tambaqui.
Tambaqui is not an exotic species, but it is considered an invasive species.
Kim Kataguiri: So, this concerns a Brazilian fish against which there is action under an infra-legal norm, attempting to sabotage production within Brazil, to prohibit production within Brazil.
Kim Kataguiri: This is already a symbol of backwardness that we are experiencing, because today the world's largest exporter of tambaqui is not Brazil but Asian countries.
