Tabata Amaral: Fifty-three percent sought the church first, because they look for someone they trust, someone who will welcome them, someone who will listen to them, someone who will say: 'You are not alone'.
Tabata Amaral: This does speak to the strength of faith and religious communities for millions of Brazilian women.
It also raises a question for all of us: why do these women not feel safe to turn to the State?
Tabata Amaral: It's our fault, it's also the fault of this Congress, because the State needs to ensure that every Brazilian woman finds, when filing a complaint, support and protection, and that she knows she will not be alone.
Tabata Amaral: I speak here of evangelical women, of Catholic women, of Spiritist families, of families that do not profess any religion.
